Grace and Garrett met at Bryant University the first day of classes in the first class freshman year. Having never left her hometown friends, Grace was shy. Garrett was not. Garrett overheard Grace tell a friend she may consider running for student senate to which Garrett interrupted saying, "I'm actually running myself - we should campaign together!" Garrett had no intention of running (until that moment) he was just eager to join any organization that Grace was to get to know her better. Grace politely declined but then soon discovered that the second class she went to also had Garrett in it - he was grinning from ear to ear when he saw her.
They continued to be aligned in schedules from that point: to Grace's dismay and Garrett's pleasant surprise, Grace and Garrett were placed in every class together.
After a few days of chatting Garrett finally convinced Grace to agree to co-campaign for the freshman class of Bryant together with the slogan "vote G squared" and they won by a landslide.
Thrilled to now also be members of the Bryant Student senate together and peers in all classes. Grace and Garrett were together frequently.
Given the alignment in academic classes, Garrett suggested that Grace and he tag team study sessions. Grace was reluctant but agreed and Garrett (a natural teacher) was successful in helping Grace learn some of the areas in math she was unsure about and they both aced their exam.
Grace and Garrett continued to be study buddies for every exam and during stressful study sessions, Grace learned just how much Garrett made her laugh and how much of a good guy he was the way that he opened up his heart, his past, his struggles, and his faith.
Grace and Garrett went separate ways at Bryant (Grace the more studious path while Garrett joined a fraternity) but they always agreed to come together to study each semester for both mid-year and final exams.
Garrett tried to date Grace while at Bryant to which she rejected him. On more than one occasion (she had a boyfriend at the time and wasn't interested in more than friendship).
After transferring to Emerson College after 2 years at Bryant, (Grace's previous relationship long ended) she found herself studying for her last exam before graduation alone and thinking of the days when she had an energetic study buddy to make studying more fun.
In that moment Garrett texted Grace saying, "I miss you in my life" and reading this text Grace knew that she would end up marrying this guy who still was thinking of her after 2 years of not being in touch.
Grace couldn't believe the timing of Garretts text and they began to chat like old friends again. Garrett shared with Grace that he had referred to her as his "great white buffalo" meaning, "the one that got away." and Grace was touched. It was in this moment that Garrett (years later from when they first met) asked Grace to dinner (thrilled she no longer had a boyfriend) and this time Grace said yes.
After a successful dinner date Grace and Garrett continued on dates until one night asked Grace at a Celtics game amongst the loud noise, "Will you be my girlfriend already?!" to which Grace smiled and said yes.
Grace and Garrett have been together nonstop ever since - it was a remarkable journey of best friends blossoming into love (the start of a successful marriage.)
They are true best friends and a destined match and look forward to living out their "G Squared" campaign in life as husband and wife for the rest of their lives.
